Year 4
This half term, Year 4 will be exploring the question “Would you prefer to live in the Stone Age, Iron Age or Bronze Age?” in our history lessons. The children will make links back to their previous learning all about the Stone Age in Year 3 and compare the different periods of history.
In reading lessons, we will be reading a book by Sophie Kirtley. We will be looking at each chapter closely focusing on different reading skills, such as, prediction, retrieval, inference, vocabulary and summary.
For writing our focus will be suspense stories and information texts. The children will be learning to use fronted adverbials, ambitious vocabulary, paragraphs and correct tense within their writing.
In maths, our first unit is place value. We will be exploring numbers up to 10,000 and also looking at roman numerals. We will also be working on our speedy recall of times tables.
Our science focus is “Living Things and their Habitats”. The children will learn to identify and classify living things in a variety of ways and the dangers of changing environments for living things.
